This program in Siem Reap, Cambodia is an international experience with a social mission to work with the poor in one of the most challenged countries in the world. Five students will intern with
The Global Child, a school for street children, and the
Ponheary Ly Foundation (supports rural public schools). The program has been intentionally designed to engage Union College students through coursework, internships and cultural activities. These integrated elements will give Union College students an opportunity to understand and experience a dynamic and developing city.
Course of Study
The Cambodia program offers a combination of academic courses and experiential learning opportunities, suiting a wide range of majors. Students will take three courses: the Khmer language; Cambodia: Crossing Cultures; and Internship: Basics of Cambodian Non-governmental organizations.
An internship in Cambodia is a unique opportunity for Union College students to gain a competitive edge by getting hands on professional experience in a developing nation. The Basics of Cambodian Non-governmental organizations course combines classroom learning with workplace practice and social and cultural investigation.
Pre-requisites
A 3.0 cumulative GPA is required.
Accommodations
Students will live in the Seven Candles Guesthouse with shared bedrooms. All rooms have an en-suite bathroom, air conditioning, a ceiling fan, a mini-fridge and a television with international cable.

- September: Application deadline is the third Friday of fall term.
- Mid-November: Non-refundable deposit due at the Cashier's Office in McKean House, and receipt brought to the International Programs Office
- Winter term: Orientation meetings
- Late March: Program begins
- Early June: Program ends
